The security of the campus and the safety of its residents and daily visitors is a responsibility shared by the entire ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½. In addition to creating safety programs and emergency guides, we closely track and report on all campus safety incidents via ongoing notices and an Annual Security and Fire Report. We believe this transparency helps keep our campus ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ informed and aware and better able to maintain their own security and personal safety on campus.

Meaning of Alerts, Advisories, & Bulletins
Security alerts are printed on red paper and describe situations or incidents of the greatest magnitude that may directly impact the UST ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½. Alerts can include incidents such as robberies, multiple thefts on campus or assaults.
Security advisories are printed on yellow paper and describe crimes on or off-campus that are important to the university ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½. While not as critical as the incidents described in the red security alerts, advisories pose significant concerns for the safety and well-being of students, faculty and staff.
Security bulletins are printed on blue paper and outline topics of concern that serve to educate students, faculty and staff on the environment in which they live and work. These postings emphasize crime awareness and prevention and are posted around campus to warn of situations in which the university ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ may be vulnerable. Examples of incidents calling for security bulletins are thefts, fraudulent activity or dangerous conditions.
In any emergency, members of the University Action and Response Team (UART) meet to determine the next steps, with a focus on protecting the people involved while assessing ongoing risk. This risk assessment helps determine if a campus notification is required - a situation that involves an immediate threat to the health or safety of students, faculty or staff will create an alert.
Note that a campus notification is not always issued in cases of sexual assault but victims are always offered care and support and the assault is shared during reporting.
